Our goal is to help all early educators achieve their full potential as professionals to ensure that each child is prepared for success in school and life.
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS
Advance the highest standards for quality programs.
Well-prepared educators drive quality and positive child outcomes. It is time for early educators, across professional roles and settings, to possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to promote healthy learning and development of young children, and to work effectively with families and other professionals. We seek to create a system of clear roles and career pathways from entry to expert levels with equitable access to the necessary supports at every stage of professional learning. Our work seeks to realize the recommendations made by the Institute of Medicine’s Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8: A Unifying Foundation.
PROFESSIONAL COMPENSATION
Increase compensation for early childhood educators.
Nearly half of early educators earn poverty wages. Our children cannot have the early educators they need without professional compensation that rewards and reflects their professional preparation, incentivizes them to stay and grow in their professional learning, and be available to all children—not just those whose families can afford to pay. Our work to increase compensation is based on recommendations made by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Transforming the Financing of Early Care and Education.
PREPARED CHILDREN
Ensure every child in an early care and education program has an educator who is well-prepared and compensated.
Gaps in access to competent, well-prepared early educators create gaps in achievement long before children enter kindergarten. We envision an early childhood system where the opportunity and achievement gaps are closed, with each child having the chance to meet their full potential through a high-quality early childhood education.
